Hi there,

There is a good film available through CBC that deals with this topic where the woman researches women in prison.  It's really interesting from a couple of perspectives.  Most of the women who were interviewed and took part in the film were in prison because they finally struck back at their abusers who were their fathers or partners.  This was true whether the woman was non-native or native.

My peronsal response and thoughts on this were that these women were fighting back for themselves finally, yet in doing so, were going against the accepted social norms of who defined 'society' and women's roles within that society.  For doing that, they were punished with life imprisonment.  Who put them there?  Male legislators.

Good luck in your research.
